COLUMN ABOUT DOG TO DOG AGGRESSION – BUT IS IT REALLY THE PROBLEM?

A dog owner writes because her German Shepherd has become dog to dog aggressive and she’s not had any luck getting the problem resolved. I propose it’s possible there’s nothing the matter with the dog at all. Read the column

GENOME SEQUENCING HIGHLIGHTS SURPRISE REGARDING THE EARLY HISTORY OF DOGS – NOT OUR WOLVES

New research suggests that dogs are not as closely related to what we know as wolves as previous research has led many to believe. The study goes on to propose that a dog’s ability to digest starch developed later than earlier thought. I’m providing an attachment of the research paper. https://www.askthedogguy.com/genome-sequencing-highlights-surprise-regarding-early-history-dogs/

REMEMBER LAST NEWSLETTER STUDY THAT SAID DOGS ALIGN THEIR BODIES TO MAGNETIC NORTH WHEN THEY POOP – WATCH THIS VIDEO OF A FOX HUNTING

In a recent newsletter I provided a copy of a study claiming that dogs will align their bodies north/south when defecating if the earth’s magnetic field is not out of whack due to some sort of disturbance. This video features a claim that foxes hunting prey under the snow do the same thing. https://www.askthedogguy.com/magnetic-north-alignment-addendum/

NEW STUDY LINKS CANCER AND BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS TO NEUTERING – CANCER MAYBE – THE BEHAVIOUR LINK – READ WHY I DON’T AGREE

In this study owners of the breed Viszlas were asked to complete an online survey to determine if there was a link to certain behavior problems and certain cancers to early neutering of the breed. The author’s concluded that there was a significant risk in increasing the chances of cancer and behavior problems. I’m not so sure I agree with the connections they’re making regarding the behaviour problems. https://www.askthedogguy.com/new-study-argues-early-neuter-reasons-related-cancer-behavior-problems/

RECENT STUDY INDICATES WOLVES ARE MUCH BETTER AT OBSERVATIONAL LEARNING THAN DOGS

Scientists pitted a group of wolves against a group of dogs by allowing them to observe a dog trained to open a container and then letting them have a go themselves. The wolves outperformed the dogs significantly. They found all the wolves were able to open the container while only just under 25% of the dogs were able to benefit from the trained dog’s demonstration. https://www.askthedogguy.com/recent-study-indicates-wolves-much-better-observational-learning/
