The Beautiful Balance
Dog Training with Nature’s Template
Aggressive Dogs
Cause, Diagnosis Protocols and Treatment

Over the last few decades much attention has been invested in examining dog training philosophies, methodologies and tools and many professional associations have been born to gather like minded trainers together.

In spite of this evolution there has been a considerable polarization in opinions as to the “right” way to train a dog and it has become increasingly difficult (and confusing) for companion dog owners to get answers to their training questions.

In this workshop we will have a brief look at the pros and cons of various methodologies and have a look at a more holistic approach that connects more naturally with both companion dog owners and companion dog’s, is more easily incorporated into companion dog owner lifestyles and produces better results.  (½ day)

In this workshop you will learn the various factors that contribute to the development of aggression in dogs. Genetics, socialization period imprinting, environment, training approach, owner handling ability, owner lifestyle are a few.

In addition you will learn how to advise clients to avoid the development of aggression, how to determine what aspects of the dog’s life are most likely having a negative influence and how to reverse the affect of those influences.s Attendees will also learn an assessment protocol and apply it to several case studies. (½ day)

Imprinting Puppies to Shape Long Term Stable Temperament Anxious Dogs
Cause, Diagnosis Protocols and Treatment

Puppy socialization strategies that truly affect stable temperament development cannot not be accomplished in classes. However dog owners can with the guidance of clinic professionals have a profound impact by implementing a simple strategy that is based on sound science related to critical socialization imprinting.

This is one of the most proactive ways a clinic can contribute to the future lives of their client’s dogs with their canine behaviour wellness strategy. (½ day)

In some cases the cause of the anxiety can be tied to early imprinting, in others it develops as a result of the way dog and dog owner interact. Learning to distinguish between the two is important as it influences prognosis expectations.

Attendees will learn how to assess an anxious dog and explore various treatment options and work through several case studies to review what they learn. (½ day)

Cass Bayley CMP, The Bayley Group and Event Management

John packed the theatre and received rave reviews with what was the most frequently cited session at the conference.

Brother Christopher – The Monks of New Skete.

John’s presentation on dog aggression at the ’09 IACP Conference was very strong, integrating clear understanding of canine aggression with obvious experience in dealing with owners and their dogs. His discussion about interviewing the client was comprehensive and enlightening, and his good humour and wit kept his audience smiling and interested. A very fine talk, indeed.

– Stanley Coren, PhD, FRSC, author of “The Intelligence of Dogs,” “How Dogs Think”

John Wade combines a hands-on understanding of dog behavior and misbehaviour with an ability to communicate clearly and to hold the attention of an audience. He is well worth listening to.

Dr. Jeffrey A. Rau, DVM, M.Sc., B.Sc (Agr), President of the Ontario Veterinary College Animal Welfare Club

Your workshops on canine behavior were key to our success in offering attendees a world class product. They were extremely well received by the audience which included student and practicing veterinarians, veterinary technicians, humane officers and other persons working in the animal care field.

– Kyra Sundance – Stunt Dog Trainer, author of “101 Dog Tricks” and “The Dog Rules” (Ellen, The Tonight Show)

John is a captivating speaker who deals with the difficult topic of dog aggression in a positive and encouraging tone. John’s methods empower his audience with knowledge, and challenge them to consider the tough ethical questions of doing what is best for the dog and also the people surrounding the dog. John’s energy and humour keeps the audience entertained and engaged. If you have the opportunity to attend his seminar, you won’t want to miss it!
